About Icite Space

Incite Space is a project that I conceived in order to make time every week in which I can stimulate my creative side.

I am no artist, nor am I a writer -- but I do have as my main avenues for creative outlet the visual arts and the written word. Trust me, you do not want to experience my musical endeavors.

I selected 52 prompts from a list of randomly-generated words and phrases and then randomly-assigned one of 7 media with which to explore those topics:

  • Paint: acrylic, gouache, oil or spray paint in any style and any canvas
  • Ink: black ink on paper
  • Photos: a short (5-15 image) photo essay / album
  • Report: a short (500-1.500 word) non-fiction article
  • Short story: a short (500-1500 word) fiction story
  • Review: a review of some other media (music, art, TV, film, theatre, etc) related to the assigned prompt
  • Longform: a long (1.500-5.000 word) piece about a topic found within 5 click-throughs from the prompt's wikipedia page

Ideally, I won't spend more than 8hrs per week on this (sometimes it will be less, sometimes more, depending on the medium) and it needs to be started and ended in the relevant week. The idea is that each week I will create something following the above rules in order to force myself to engage and center my mind but also not to obsess or fixate on the subject for too long.

Below is the full list I will be following; I haven't read the combos yet and will only read the following week's prompt once I have completed the current week's task.

This is for me but anyone else can join in if it helps you to have something to focus on.

If you create anything based on this list and publish it on the socials, I just ask that you use the hashtag #InciteSpace and tag @Incite_Space on Insta or Twitter
